Pitching Drills - Leg Lift Bucket Pitching Drill

Pitching Drills - Leg Lift Bucket Pitching Drill

This pitching drill is great for pitchers who:

- Have an inconsistent load or leg lift

- Break their hands too late and leave their arm behind

- "walk through" with the backside

To do this pitching drill you will need a 5 gallon bucket or something that resembles the shape and size of one.

The pitcher should set the back of the bucket up to line up with the front of his front foot.  This will give the pitcher a chance to load his leg at an angle using the back corner of the bucket instead of being straight up and down with the leg lift.

The first thing that should be done in this pitching drill is, the pitcher should break his hands first.  This will help the pitcher to break their hands before the movement forward begins.

Next the pitcher should break his hips and lead with his butt while keeping his foot over the bucket, driving towards home.  This will help with keeping the leg up and forward instead of dropping and swinging.

Last but not least, the pitcher should follow through, letting his back leg come up and over the bucket.  It is not unusual that the pitcher will hit the bucket with his back leg.  That is ok.  What you don't want to happen is the player to "walk through" instead of extending and lifting or letting the back leg come up and over.

This pitching drill is great to do for a pitcher who has any of these 3 inconsistencies.  For more great pitching drills check out the pitching program that got me drafted and had me throwing 96 mph:  Pitching 365
