Not Taking Your Last At Bat Out To Defense With You
This section should go along with mental toughness of a hitter. You cannot let what happens on offense effect your defensive play, and vice versa. If you have a bad at bat and strike out, ground out, double play, pop up, or whatever, you gotta go out that next half inning and make the plays behind your team. If you let your at bat effect you and you go out that next half inning and commit an error or have a bad inning, then guess what, you are probably going to have a bad at bat the next time. This is how bad slumps start. These are the long ones that are so hard to get out of because you are beating yourself up mentally. Calm down and forget about your last at bat. If you had a bad game, forget about your last game. You must be ready and confident every single at bat and also on the other side of the plate for defense. One bad at bat can start a downward spiral if you let it. That is why it is so important to not take your last at bat out to defense with you. Imagine how good you'll feel after you match that diving play. You won't be thinking about that at bat anymore and you'll probably have some adrenaline going into the next at bat. Stay positive and have a short memory!
