Hitting Drill - The Tennis Ball Drill

Tennis Ball Drill

The tennis ball drill is a great hitting drill that helps the batter keep his weight back when a pitch is coming in. How the tennis ball drill works is someone will get about 25 feet away and bounce the tennis ball in the strike zone. Because the tennis ball is bounced the hitter will tend to jump at it and swing early. The pitcher should throw the tennis ball like a regular pitch. This lets the drill seem more realistic. This way the batter can work on the load and then focus on staying back when the tennis ball comes in later than expected. You don’t need to take full hacks on this drill. Just nice and easy swings working on the load and timing while keeping your weight back.
