Hitting Drills - Power Bat Drill
Power Bat Drill
The power bat drill is designed to develop power by hitting an object heavier than a baseball. This is a great drill because if you focus on using proper technique, it can really add some power to your swing.
How it works is you take a plunger and put it inside of your tee. Then you put a soccer ball or basketball on top of the plunger (make sure the plunger is clean).
The next step of course is to hit the soccer ball or basketball off on the tee plunger into a net. At first it will be hard to get a crisp swing through the soccer ball or basketball. Your bat will kind of bounce off of the ball. Only until you have built up enough strength can you hit through the ball is if it were a baseball.
Keep working on this and you will see a big difference in the power when you connect with a baseball. Just remember that power is about your bat speed at the time of impact. So when you are doing this drill, don’t try to muscle up through the bigger ball, actually swing at it as if it were a baseball. The strength will come.
